Three basic parts of GMS
1. Quick testing measurement
Quick and cheap measurements for basic assessment of individual construction or of embankments in the frame of whole watershed. Dipole electromagnetic profiling using multi-frequency apparatus (i.e. GEM 2) is recommended for this phase.
GEM 2 is a broadband digital multi-frequency apparatus, originally designed for military use (localization of ammunition, engineering networks etc.) Its main advantage lies in a possibility to measure several frequencies of electromagnetic signal at one moment – it allows to measure 15 frequencies simultaneously. The interval of 0.1 s can be set-up for measurement steps, which means 10 entries per meter when measuring at the speed of walking person. Common DEMP method measurements are using 4 working frequencies. Output data are continuously linked to spatial coordinates measured with GPS. Selection of suitable frequencies differs in different locations, depending on local electromagnetic interference. Linear or areal measurements can be carried out according to the characteristics of analyzed location.
Easy obtaining of in-situ data and its automated processing using special software developed by consortium comprising of companies Cross Czech and G-Impuls is the main advantage of DEMP method.
Only experienced geophysicists with practice in using DEMP and other diagnostic method can perform final evaluation of measured data!
2. Diagnostic measurement
Detailed measurements inhomogenous segments focusing on locating of hidden defects. Methodology is based on application of complex geoelectric method, mainly multielectrode resistance method (MEM), complemented by another independent method according to the type of studied defect.
3. Measurement of geotechnical condition
Geophysical measurement to monitor geomechanical condition of eroded dike sections. For the analysis of dikes geomechanical characteristics especially seismic methods and micro-gravimetry are used.
